Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 25, 2026 · Applies to cruiseshipwiki.com and the Cruise Ship Wiki Android app.
What we collect
When you create a member account we store your email address, display name, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google; we never see your Google password. If you use member features, we store the cruise-planning data you enter: sailings, bookings, loyalty program points, casino offers, packages, notes, and any booking documents or screenshots you choose to upload. Uploaded documents are private to your account and are never publicly accessible.
Like most websites, our server keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting. These are routinely rotated and are not used to build profiles.
What is public and what is private
Photos and video-tour links you contribute to ship and cabin pages are public and are displayed with credit to your display name. Your cruise log, loyalty and casino data, uploaded documents, and trip planning information are private to your account. Messages you send through the Muster Station are visible to their recipients and stored so they can be delivered; site administrators can access them only for moderation or abuse investigation, and they are never published or shared.
Cookies
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, and an optional “remember me” cookie (30 days) if you request it at login. We also use Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies to help us understand which pages are visited and how the site is used; this data is aggregated and we do not use it to identify individual visitors. You can block analytics cookies with a browser setting or extension (such as Google's Analytics opt-out add-on) and the site will work normally. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site trackers, and we do not show ads.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to measure site traffic. Google acts as a processor for this measurement data; its handling is described in Google's privacy policy. We have not enabled advertising features, remarketing, or audience sharing.
Donations and memberships
Donations and memberships are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We keep a record of the contribution (name, email, amount, date) to show supporter perks and answer receipt questions. Stripe's handling of payment data is described in Stripe's privacy policy.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links to partners (for example travel, shopping, and excursion sites) are affiliate links: if you click one and make a purchase, the partner may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. The partner may set its own cookies on its own site. Details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
What we do NOT do
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone. We do not show ads. We do not send marketing email. The only email the site sends is functional (for example, an optional weekly reminder about your own expiring casino offers, or messages you asked for).
The Android app
The Cruise Ship Wiki Android app is a viewer for this website and collects no additional data beyond what the website itself uses. It contains no ads and no in-app purchases.
Data retention & deletion
Your data stays in your account until you delete it or ask us to. You can delete individual sailings, documents, photos, and offers at any time from your account pages. To delete your entire account and all associated data, email support@cruiseshipwiki.com from your account email and it will be removed within 30 days. Public contributions (photos you shared to ship pages) are removed with your account unless you tell us you would like them to remain credited to a former-member placeholder. Backups age out on a rolling basis within a further 30 days.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as modern salted hashes. Private uploads are stored outside public web paths and checked for account ownership on every request. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever discover a breach affecting your data we will notify affected members by email promptly.
Children
Cruise Ship Wiki is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@cruiseshipwiki.com and we will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK or California), these rights may also be backed by local law; we honor them for everyone regardless of location.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes we will update the effective date above and note the change on this page. Continued use of the site after a change means the updated policy applies.
