Cabin 17042 is an Icon Loft Suite on Deck 17 of Star of the Seas. You are forward of midship. You are at the top of the passenger decks, so the pools and the open air are just up the stairs, and you feel the ship move more than anyone below you. There is some movement here, more than midship and a good deal less than the ends. Most people never think about it. We score it 6 out of 10 for steadiness.

You are all but on top of the forward lift bank, about 1 cabin away. Nothing on board is a shorter walk. The price is footsteps past your door and the lift chiming at odd hours. The forward lift and stair lobby on deck 17. Star uses destination control: you choose your deck at the panel outside and it tells you which car to take, so there are no buttons inside the cars. The lobby is also the main stair landing for this end of the ship. Worth knowing: destination control panels are outside the lift, not inside it. Cabins immediately beside a lobby hear doors and voices at every hour, and the lobbies are busiest just after a show finishes. Quiet scores 5 out of 10. It is booked as an Icon Loft Suite. At suite level you are buying more than square feet. Suites almost always carry priority boarding and priority disembarkation, and the higher grades on most lines add a restaurant, a lounge or a sun deck of their own. Junior and entry level suites often get none of that, so it is worth checking what this particular grade includes rather than assuming the whole list comes with the word.

There is a loyalty argument for this room as well as a comfort one.
