Azamara Journey is a small ocean ship of 30,277 gross tons carrying roughly 700 guests at double occupancy, the defining idea being destination immersion: the hull is a base camp, and late nights and overnights in port do the work. Built in 2000 as R Six for Renaissance Cruises, she is one of eight R class hulls, sister to Oceania's Insignia, Regatta, Nautica and Sirena. The name history needs correcting: after Renaissance collapsed she sailed for Pullmantur as Blue Star from 2003 and Blue Dream from 2005, entering Azamara service in 2007. Published records show no spell as Celebrity Journey, and Blue Moon belonged to the sister ship now called Azamara Quest. Royal Caribbean Group sold the brand to Sycamore Partners in 2021 for 201 million dollars.

What distinguishes her is scale plus named rooms: Discoveries Restaurant, the Windows Cafe buffet, Prime C for steak, Aqualina for Italian and a Chef's Table carrying a cover charge. The Living Room, formerly the Looking Glass observation lounge, sits high aft, with the Cabaret Lounge, Drawing Room library and Sanctum Spa. Published reviews converge: bathrooms in veranda staterooms are repeatedly called smaller than those in interiors, storage and outlets are tight, and connectivity and cabin technology read as dated. The smallest categories measure 143 square feet, with fewer outdoor spaces than modern builds. Age is managed rather than erased: a 2016 refit, technical work in 2024, a dry dock slated for 2027. On a hull this size motion is felt despite stabilisers, and independent guidance steers susceptible guests from forward and aft cabins. Cruise Critic's editor rating sits at 4.0 out of 5.

She suits port focused adults wanting quiet public rooms and fewer add ons. Families, big ship entertainment seekers and budget hunters are served less well, and nervous sailors should weigh open ocean crossings like the August 2026 Iceland and Canada eclipse voyage. Deployment through 2026 is European, across the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

**What this means for choosing a cabin.** Of 355 staterooms on six cabin decks, roughly 68 to 70 percent have a veranda: 199 verandas, 88 oceanview, 26 interiors and 44 suites by CruiseMapper's count. A veranda runs 175 square feet plus a 40 square foot balcony, an interior 158 and an oceanview 143, making some oceanview rooms smaller than interiors. The Cabaret Lounge sits on deck 5, so cabins above on deck 6 and below on deck 4 catch performance noise, and deck 8 cabins sit beneath the pool and spa deck. Low deck balconies can take spray in a swell, dividers are sloped, and midship on decks 6 or 7 stays steadiest.
