Carnival Breeze

Carnival Breeze is a cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line, the American mass-market brand within the Carnival Corporation family. The vessel was constructed at the Monfalcone shipyard of the Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, near Trieste, at a reported cost of roughly 740 million US dollars. Hull assembly proceeded through 2010 and 2011, and the ship was floated out of its building dock on 16 September 2011. Following the customary period of fitting out and sea trials in the northern Adriatic, Fincantieri handed the completed vessel over to Carnival on 3 June 2012, making Breeze one of the newest additions to the fleet at that time.

The ship is the third and last member of Carnival's Dream class, following the lead vessel Carnival Dream, delivered in 2009, and Carnival Magic, delivered in 2011. The Dream-class trio represented the largest ships Carnival had built up to that point and served as an evolutionary step beyond the earlier Conquest and Splendor designs. As the final ship of the class, Breeze incorporated a number of refinements over its two sisters, including a reconfigured top deck and an expanded suite of branded dining and entertainment venues that had been introduced or tested elsewhere in the fleet. The class was later succeeded by the larger Vista class, the first of which entered service in 2016.

In terms of scale and layout, Carnival Breeze measures approximately 130,000 gross tons and stretches about 306 meters, or just over 1,000 feet, in length. The ship carries around 3,690 guests at standard double occupancy, with capacity for several thousand more when all berths are filled, and it is staffed by roughly 1,300 to 1,400 crew members. Guest accommodations and public rooms are spread across roughly 15 passenger decks, many of them themed around a tropical, sun-and-sea aesthetic that distinguishes the interior design. Power comes from a diesel-electric arrangement built around six Wartsila engines that generate electricity for the propulsion motors and the ship's hotel systems, driving the vessel to a service speed in the low-to-mid twenties of knots.

Among the ship's signature attractions is the WaterWorks aqua park on the upper decks, which features long, twisting waterslides, including a lengthy corkscrew slide, along with spray zones and splash areas for families. Nearby sits SportSquare, an open-air recreation complex that includes a suspended ropes course allowing guests to walk high above the deck, plus a jogging track, mini-golf, and courts for basketball and other games. The top decks also offer multiple swimming pools, hot tubs, an outdoor movie screen for evening films, and ample lounging space, giving the ship the resort-style outdoor environment that has become a hallmark of the Carnival brand.

Dining and nightlife aboard Breeze reflect the branded-venue concept that Carnival rolled out across its fleet during this period. Casual options include Guy's Burger Joint, a poolside burger stand developed with celebrity chef Guy Fieri, and the BlueIguana Cantina serving Mexican fare. Sit-down specialty restaurants include Cucina del Capitano, an Italian venue, and a reservation-based steakhouse, while the main dining rooms handle the traditional multi-course evening service. For drinks and entertainment, the ship offers the RedFrog Pub with its own private-label beer, the BlueIguana Tequila Bar, the EA Sports Bar, and the Alchemy Bar specializing in craft cocktails, alongside a central atrium, a comedy club, and a large main showroom for production entertainment.

The ship was formally christened on 8 December 2012 in Miami, with television personality and philanthropist Tracy Wilson Mourning, wife of former basketball star Alonzo Mourning, serving as its godmother. Although the naming ceremony took place later in the year, the vessel had already begun carrying passengers following its June delivery. Carnival Breeze opened its career with a European program, sailing an inaugural Mediterranean season out of ports such as Barcelona and Venice during the summer of 2012 before repositioning across the Atlantic. That autumn the ship began operating year-round Caribbean itineraries from Miami, offering both eastern and western Caribbean voyages of varying lengths.

In May 2016 Carnival moved the ship to Galveston, Texas, where it became a long-term fixture offering seven-night Caribbean cruises to destinations such as Cozumel, the western Caribbean, and other Mexican and Central American ports. The vessel underwent a scheduled dry-dock refurbishment in 2017 that refreshed public areas and updated onboard features. Like the rest of the industry, Breeze was pulled from service during the extended shutdown of cruising in 2020 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it resumed commercial sailings once Carnival restarted operations.

As of the mid-2020s, Carnival Breeze remains in active service with Carnival Cruise Line and continues to be based primarily at Galveston, from which it runs Caribbean itineraries that make it one of the busier ships serving the Texas market. Now well over a decade old, the vessel functions as a mainstream, family-oriented ship whose combination of extensive outdoor recreation, branded restaurants, and value-focused Caribbean sailings keeps it a steady performer within the fleet, even as newer and larger Carnival ships have since entered service.
