Editorial The original Lady Ship, sharpened by her 2024 refit CruiseShipWiki · August 2026 · 147 words

Scarlet Lady delivers the Virgin formula at its most proven: adults only, more than 20 included eateries, no buffet, and a ship that no longer feels like a prototype after her November 2024 refit added the Seriously Suites, Lucky Lotus and a larger casino. The trade offs are the class trade offs. Cabins are compact by big ship standards, the convertible seabed and the famous terrace hammock split opinion, and entertainment leans to intimate, immersive shows rather than a big theater production. Choosing a cabin: she is long and lean, so midship Sea Terraces on decks 9 to 12 give the best balance of motion and walking distance; deck 8 sits closest to the nightlife decks, worth checking against the deck plan if you are noise sensitive; and her 49 solo Insider cabins make her a strong pick for solo Sailors. Post refit she has 12 fewer cabins than her sisters, all on deck 11.

Scarlet Lady is the lead ship of Virgin Voyages and the vessel that launched the line. Ordered from Fincantieri in 2016 and delivered at Sestri Ponente on February 14, 2020, she was christened informally by Sir Richard Branson in Dover that month, then saw her April 2020 Miami debut postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Revenue sailings finally began with UK preview voyages on August 6, 2021, followed by her official maiden voyage from Miami on October 6, 2021. A November 2024 dry dock at Fincantieri Palermo reshaped her top suite and dining lineup: two dozen Sea Terrace cabins on deck 11 became the new Seriously Suite category, Lucky Lotus joined the eateries, the casino grew, and the Aquatic Club gained VIP cabanas, leaving her with 1,396 cabins, a dozen fewer than her sisters. She has since sailed Miami and San Juan Caribbean winters and Mediterranean summers, with a winter 2027-28 Southern Caribbean season from San Juan announced.

About the Lady Ships

The four Lady Ships are near identical sisters built by Fincantieri at Sestri Ponente, Genoa: about 110,000 gross tons and 277 metres, with roughly 1,400 cabins and capacity for about 2,770 Sailors at double occupancy plus 1,150 crew. Virgin publishes no formal class designation; the line brands the quartet its Lady Ships. Scarlet Lady led the class into service in 2021, followed by Valiant Lady (2022), Resilient Lady (2023) and Brilliant Lady (2025), which carries an adapted frame that allows Panama Canal transit.
